Abstract. This paper honors the 70th anniversary of Professor Zlatozar Boev, DSc, a pilar in modern Bulgarian ornithology. During his 46-year career at the National Museum of Natural History (Sofia, Bulgaria), Prof. Boev pioneered the fields of avian osteology, paleornithology, and archaeornithology in Bulgaria. He founded three new ornithological branches in the country: (1) osteology, (2) exterior morphology and (3) paleo- and archaeo-ornithology. His work includes describing 41 avian taxa new to science and establishing one of the most significant paleornithological collections in Europe. With over 930 scientific and popular science articles, books, and textbooks published in more than 20 countries, he is the most productive author in the history of Bulgarian ornithology.
