Our digital planetarium, located in the Regional Natural History Museum – Plovdiv, was built in 2015 by the American company Evans & Sutherland, a world leader in the field. It features an 8-meter diameter dome and is equipped with a special fisheye‑lens projector that allows full-dome projection.

The Digistar software simulates visits to various cosmic locations and phenomena in real time, providing an immersive journey through the Universe. With a capacity of 50 seats, the shows can be conducted in English upon prior group reservation.

Preserving Our Precious Planet

The full-dome show program is produced by the Regional Museum of Natural History – Plovdiv, in cooperation with the European Space Agency (ESA). Directed by Theofanis Matsopoulos and voiced by actor Ivan Yurukov.
The documentary focuses on the most important past, current and future missions of the European Space Agency (ESA) for the observation and monitoring of the Earth’s magnetosphere, atmosphere, land cover, hydrosphere, cryosphere and biosphere. We will look at ESA’s activities for weather observation and forecasting, as well as the prevention of natural and man-made disasters. “Preserving Our Precious Planet” includes a component on climate and its rapid change over the past few decades. All this is presented in a way suitable for both children and adults, as it is important for us all to know how to protect our living environment.

From Earth to the Universe

Learn about the journey of celestial discovery, from the theories of ancient Greek astronomers to the present day. The night sky, beautiful and mysterious, has been the subject of ancient myth and awe for as long as humans have existed. The desire to understand the universe is perhaps humanity’s oldest shared intellectual experience. Viewers can marvel at the splendor of the worlds in the solar system, the fierce eruptions of the Sun, and experience an inspiring journey to the far reaches of the universe, beyond the Milky Way to the unimaginable vastness of countless galaxies.

Search for the Edge of the Solar system

Students are challenged to learn more about where we are in the infinite Cosmos. They will seek the answer to this question by learning about the challenges and methods of exploring interstellar space. We will learn about the heliosphere and the boundary of our Solar System with the rest of the galaxy with the help of the Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX), which studies cosmic radiation, creates a three-dimensional map of the stars, and studies the farthest reaches of our Solar System.

Beyond The Sun

Еxclusively at the Planetarium of the Regional Natural History Museum – Plovdiv, you can experience the Bulgarian-dubbed fulldome show, combining photorealistic animation with scientific discoveries presented in an accessible and engaging way.

Celeste (Magdalena Myasishteva) meets the mysterious Moon (Vladimir Zombori), and their encounter turns into a journey through deep space, drawing us into the search for distant worlds and the methods scientists use to discover exoplanets and new potential Earth-like planets.

The animation has received numerous international awards and special selections, including “Best Animated Film” at the Minsk International Fulldome Festival and “Best Narrative” at the Dome Under Festival.

The Hot and Energetic Universe

A full-dome planetarium show about the basic principles of electromagnetic radiation and natural phenomena related to high-energy astrophysics, which plays a key role in understanding the Universe. These radiations reveal the processes in the hot and turbulent Universe. We will explore galaxy clusters, supermassive black holes, neutron stars, supernova remnants and stars like our Sun, which emit large amounts of high-energy radiation. The film was awarded a Gold Star by the Seoul International Film Festival.

Phantom of the Universe

The full-dome show presents the exciting study of dark matter – one of the greatest mysteries of modern science. We will follow how scientists from all over the world join forces to reveal its origin. The documentary will introduce us to the Large Hadron Collider and the most sensitive dark matter detector on Earth, which play a key role in this research. This production was awarded an honorary award for exceptional and innovative production by the International Festival in Germany.

Europe’s Cosmic Quest

The planetarium show is produced by the Regional Museum of Natural History – Plovdiv, in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), directed by Theofanis Matsopoulos.
In the documentary, we explore some of the most iconic ESA space missions that take us from our Sun to the farthest reaches of the Universe and its birth.
We will explore the Solar System, starting with the Sun in the Solar Orbiter mission. We will learn about the electromagnetic spectrum. The Rosetta mission will take us to comets and the outer reaches of the heliosphere. We will learn about various robotic space missions, such as Planck, ATHENA, Venus, JUICE, ExoMars, Cassini and others. We look to the future with technologically advanced missions to explore the stars and exoplanets.

Two Small Pieces of Glass

Designed to engage and appeal to audiences of all ages, the show explores the wonders and discoveries made by astronomers, showcasing the enormous leaps science has taken. The full-dome planetarium show is produced by the European Southern Observatory, and introduces curious students to the mysteries of space observation, from the invention of the telescope to the present day. The young explorers are helped by astronomer Angie Love, who explains the difference between telescopes, the behavior of light, the Doppler effect and how telescopes help us see into the past and glimpse the future.

Sea Monsters

This film weaves together a series of paleontological digs from around the world into a gripping story about scientists working as detectives to answer questions about an ancient and mysterious ocean world. We will follow the curious and adventurous story of “Dolly” as she travels through the most dangerous oceans in history. We will encounter plesiosaurs, giant turtles, huge fish, ferocious sharks and one of the most dangerous sea monsters – the mosasaur.
